Spy Shots: Most Revealing Pics of Production BMW i3 Yet

These are the most revealing photos of the production version BMW i3 yet. It was caught in Munich, and for the first time the car is showing the real front and rear lamp units, and a roof free of disguise.

Also known as the MegaCity Vehicle, BMW plans to sell up to 30 000 units in 2014, its first full year of sales. Though both the i3 and the i8 sports car will be given petrol engines to either boost power (i8) or extend the range (i3), BMW launched the new ‘i’ sub-brand under the tag line “Born Electric.” Unveiling of the i3 production version—along with the i8 hybrid supercar—is expected to take place later this year. Both models will be built at the Leipzig plant and ride on the “LifeDrive architecture” which has an aluminium chassis and a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell. The i3 will produce over 130hp.

Described by BMW as futuristic premium mobility, the i3 is expected to be priced at over 52k US.
