Spy Shots: Low Sales Prompt a Facelift for 5 Series GT

BMW is giving its 5 Series GT crossover a radical facelift to help it reaching better sales figures—especially stateside, where sales are currently too low.

Though the pictures might suggest differently—due to the plastic cladding screwed onto the lid—the GT will lose its massive rear spoiler in favor of a somewhat more elegant rear end featuring a movable unit, like the one currently seen on the 3 Series GT. On the opposite end, the car will receive a new front bumper with modified air-intakes, headlights and a grille resembling the 7 Series.

No word yet on new engines or a modified interior, but do expect the car to be publicly shown at the NAIAS in Detroit next January.
