M5 Pure Metal Edition Is Metal Gear Solid
The M5 Pure Metal Edition is the most powerful M5 BMW has ever produced. It was built strictly for South Africa of all places, and only 20 of them will be/have been built.
The $100,000 standard (if you can call it that) M5 uses its 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine to put out 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. It goes 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. There’s also an optional Competition Package, which will give you an additional 15 horsepower. But that’s still not as good as the Pure Metal.
The Pure Metal Edition gives you 591 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque and will skip to 60 from a standstill in 3.9 seconds. The extra power was achieved by messing with the ECU and changing the charge. It was actually announced toward the end of last year, but as you can see in the video below, the guys at cars.co.za just got their hands on one for a test drive.
As you take this beast in, notice the special silver paint, the 20-inch wheels, and the carbon ceramic brakes. Don’t mind the host’s matter-of-fact run-down and forced enthusiasm. This video is worth the look just to watch such a rarity in motion.
