The i8 Configurator Lacks Motivation
After BMW’s selling the first i8 for oodles and oodles of money at auction this year at Pebble Beach, the sports car finally has a configurator on the BMW site. The configurator is just like all of the other BMW configurators we’ve all played with from time to time, so using it and playing with it is pretty simple.
I do think, though, that BMW might have missed the mark on this range-topping halo sports car’s configurator. The i8 has a base price of $136,650, and only goes up from there. Why not give the configurator a bit more pizazz or shiny objects to go with it? It’s the exact same configurator as the 2 Series Active Tourer, which kind of makes the experience a bit of a wet blanket.
Even though I have a gripe about this car, most people who are actually in the market for an i8 really aren’t going to care all that much. They are going to be looking for something that shows off their wealth and that’s about it.
I haven’t driven the i8 yet, but if it’s anything like the i3, it’s probably a brilliant car. Let’s just hope customers aren’t turned off by the lack of pomp and circumstance.
