Matt Farah Takes BMW E34 540i for a Sweet Ride

540i

E34 has long been lauded as one of the greatest chassis of 5-series lineage, and with the M5 version being a bit out of reach (if only for rarity), a great alternative is this little known gem.

The 540i was a little less powerful than the M5, but with a 4-litre V8, and about 260hp on tap, it proved to keep even the heartiest horsepower cravers satisfied. It even included a third pedal for those of us who will look back on the clutch in the same way we do a paper Rolodex (apart from a clutch being infinitely cooler).

This particular 1995 540i, owned by a gent named Tyler, has some things changed on it. But according to The Smoking Tire‘s Matt Farah, who takes Tyler’s car out for a spin in the “One Take” video below, it all works together very well. Big Tujunga is one of our favorite driving roads here on 5series, and the open sweepers make for a perfect dance partner to the E34 while Matt talks to the owner about the experience of driving this lovely four-door.
