Custom BMW V8 1M Build

If You’re Going to Build a Custom 1-Series, Why Wouldn’t You Build a V8 1M?

BMW’s S65 V8 motor enjoyed a great life in the M3, but it never saw life outside of that car. That’s a shame, because if we look at the current M2’s motor, you would think that a V8 1M would make perfect sense. Marco Svizzero thought so, and so he set out to build one, as you can see in the video above.

Starting off as a 135, Marco used as many OEM parts as possible for the exterior. He used a 1M front bumper and custom wide-body that is almost indistinguishable from the 1M.

Inside the car, things are a bit different. Racing seats, a harness, and roll cage dominate the interior. But it is not a full-on race car, nor was it intended to be. Still driven on the street, it keeps a lot of the usual comforts you associate with BMW.

It’s just too bad that BMW never built a little muscle car like this, because we could foresee a V8 1M taking on a serious cult following. Taking center stage is the S65 engine, of course. There’s nothing terribly wrong with the 135’s twin-turbo inline six — actually there’s a lot to like about it. But the S65 V8 is just better. More power is now on tap than ever before, and even though it was a tight squeeze, it seems to fit the engine bay with OEM precision.
