E39 Touring With a 5-Speed!

If You’re In the Market for a BMW E39 Touring With a Stick, You May Be in Luck!

Like any good BMW aficionado, we have an abiding love for the E39 generation. It seems that with each passing year, the E39 just looks better and better. It’s a timeless design released during what some believe to be BMW’s best era.

To many, the quintessential BMW is powered by a bulletproof inline six, ideally paired with a manual transmission. It’s not a particularly rare combination when it comes to Bimmers, but it is when it comes to station wagons. As such, this 2000 BMW 528i Touring on BringATrailer is a rare bird indeed.

The car is said to be rust free, with the exception of the tailgate, which is a notorious problem area on E39 Tourings. Even the cleanest examples are often seen with bubbles starting under the rear window. Otherwise, the car presents very well. Grey on grey is not a particularly dynamic color combination, but it’s unlikely to offend, either.

The BBS three-piece Style 5 wheels definitely help the exterior to look its best, while the wood trim helps to break up the interior. The stock wood shift knob really ties everything together in the center console. E39s look great even at stock ride height, so lowering isn’t really necessary in this case, and might interfere with factory self-leveling rear suspension, if so equipped.

No maintenance information is provided. And at 117k miles, either everything’s been taken care of recently or things are about to go bad in a hurry if deferred maintenance isn’t addressed. It would do the buyer well to inquire about any recent work. However, with prices for clean E39 Tourings going up every month, the seller’s seemingly reasonable $4,500 asking price leaves buyers with enough cash left over to take care of what’s necessary.
