The modern legend, Bill Caswell, known for his incredible racing behind the seat of a $500 BMW E30, now finds himself hopping into the cockpit of something slightly more powerful and a great deal more electrifying (first and last electric joke). Watching a vehicle review from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson or Chris Harris is certainly entertaining but the pure joy and inner child that Caswell exhibits in the video, gives a great perspective on what it must be like to drive a rally prepared electric E36. The gearhead’s fear of a world without gasoline may be put to rest as the vehicle gets a bit sideways and flies down the street at speeds that make even Billy-boy stick his tongue out.
The 95’ M3 features twin electric motors and enough switches and various gauges to give comparison to something out of Star Wars. The boys over at EV West brought the 700hp BMW to the 2012 Pikes Peak this year and it has been receiving tons of buzz in the racing community ever since. It broke the 12 minute barrier racing up the Peak in Colorado and continues to make the rounds to various Autocross courses in the country. The clip features plenty of open mouth grins, and just the right amount of “Dude! It just surges!” to make us excited to see more.
