BMW Might be Cooking Up an Mi8
BMW is setting up the i moniker as the next M. The two cars it has made using the new nameplate have received rave reviews, including one from us, and has everyone talking about the mass introduction of both hybrid sports cars and the use of carbon fiber. If you were to quantify the success so far, BMW has knocked it out of the park.
Now we’re hearing there could be some extra performance to motivate that ball even farther out of the arena.
According to Automobile, BMW is developing a performance version of the i8 potentially dubbed the i8S, although it may be called the Mi8 or i8M to keep with BMW’s performance tradition.
Automobile goes on to state that the car is likely to have over 500 hp, and either use a turbocharged four cylinder, or the M3/M4’s 3.0L inline six.
At the moment this is just a rumor, but it’s my opinion that the i8 has definitely been begging for some more power to go with that amazing body. With BMW’s centenary coming up, if the rumor is true, look for the debut to coincide with the celebration that’s bound to occur.
