The BMW M2 Could be Manual Only
With every successive BMW as of late, it’s become more and more apparent that “The Ultimate Driving Machine” automaker might be getting a bit lax with that whole “ultimate driving” thing.
Current BMWs have increased driver assistance gadgets and programs, less and less steering feel, and are forgoing our beloved manual transmissions.
But just when all hope was lost, BMW released the 1M, a strictly driver-centric car that put more stock back into their heritage. Eager to follow up its success, the company is now hard at work creating the M2. It may be the best BMW yet.
BMW already created a hell of a car with the M235i, which is essentially a 2 Series with a bunch of M Performance parts tacked on. The M2, though, will be a standalone car that is fully developed by the M Performance Division. If rumors are to be trusted, it might only come with a manual transmission.
According to Auto Express citing two high-level BMW officials, the company wants to distance the M2 from the M3 and M4. To do that, the new M2 will only be offered with a manual transmission. Add to the rumor that the new M2 will have around 370 hp, and you’ve got yourself one of the most eagerly awaited cars of the year.
Let’s just hope and pray that the “ultimate” part in the Ultimate Driving Machine comes back to BMW’s lineup soon.
