BMW M1 Procars Are Coming to Attack Your Eardrums
This straight-six BMW M1 supercar racer will assault your auditory abilities with fireballs.
There can be no greater mix of things in the world than an unmuffled BMW M1 Procar and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Whether blasting up the hill at Eau Rouge, or shooting down through the twin Lesmos corners, these lovely beasts spit giant fireball flames with every downshift. And they commit lewd and lascivious aural acts with every 9,000 RPM upshift. This is the sound of a machine that made something like 470 horsepower from just a 3.5-liter inline six. And that was back in the late 1970s. It’s a ludicrously cool machine in and of itself. Furthermore, it carries with it the weight of being the single coolest BMW ever made.

Given the opportunity to run one of these around Spa, we would likely fall well short of the car’s total capable lap time, but would have no less fun in doing so. This is a proper racing machine with wide slicks, a high-strung engine, and a proper mid-engine layout. This isn’t a car to scoff at; if you look at it wrong, it’ll eat you and your E28 M5 for lunch. This particular video features a full ten percent of M1 Procar production (ahem, that’d be 20 cars built), which is pretty amazing. When was the last time you saw two Procars in the same place at the same time?
