BMW i Vision Circular Concept Premieres at IAA Mobility 2021

Futuristic BMW i Vision Circular concept is built to be sustainable and is 100 percent recyclable.

BMW’s plans for its future are quite different from the rest of the automotive industry. Most automakers are revamping their product portfolio to focus more on pickup trucks, crossovers, and SUVs. The Bavarian automaker might be betting its future on the compact car segment. BMW recently unveiled the i Vision Circular concept at the ongoing IAA Mobility 2021 event. The futuristic concept car is built to be sustainable. As a result of this, BMW i Vision Circular is 100 percent recyclable.

The Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Oliver Zipse shared his thoughts on the new concept car. “The BMW i Vision Circular illustrates our all-encompassing, meticulous way of thinking when it comes to sustainable mobility. It symbolises our ambition to be a pioneering force in the development of a circular economy,” said Zipse.

The pièce de résistance of i Vision Circular’s front-end is its fully digital kidney grille and headlights. The car does not get a paint job, and instead, the bodywork is left completely exposed. The light gold anodized finish of the aluminum body panels gives i Vision Circular its distinctive color. BMW likes to call this treatment the Anodized Mystic Bronze. At the rear, we find that the taillights have been integrated into the glass panel.

The Head of BMW Group Design, Adrian van Hooydonk shed more light on i Vision Circular’s styling. “We gave thorough consideration to circularity from the outset during the design process for the BMW i Vision Circular. As a result, this Vision Vehicle is packed with innovative ideas for combining sustainability with a new, inspirational aesthetic – we call this approach ‘circular design’,” said van Hooydonk.

The cabin can accommodate four passengers and features futuristic lighting elements. An all-solid-state battery pack powers the BMW i Vision Circular concept and offers unparalleled energy density. The car also gets vehicle-to-grid capability which means i Vision Circular can be used as an energy source. The concept car can use bidirectional charging to power surrounding infrastructure. This will also help customers redistribute the vehicle’s residual power back into the grid during peak usage hours.
