BMW Announces Pricing for the i3

You’ll be paying $41,350 to slide around in the electric BMW i3. Throw in governmental incentives and the lower price will be comparable to similarly equipped internal-combustion BMWs, but the price is astounding when considering how much carbon fiber it uses in its construction.

BMW says they have paid attention to the car’s emotional appeal, especially regarding “sheer driving pleasure”. First drives in BMW’s controlled environment have demonstrated thus far that the i3 is more than just a driving appliance. It only weighs 2,800 lbs. and has 170 horsepower, so it should be fun.

Expect a range of 80 to 100 miles and interior space similar to the BMW 3 Series. The car’s turning circle is a petite 32.3 feet. Here’s a fact for those worried about charging times: go to a public fast-charging station, and you can bring a depleted i3 battery to 80-percent charged within 20 minutes.

The BMW i3 debuts July 29 at events in New York, London and Beijing. BMW’s electric car will arrive in showrooms by spring 2014.
