BMW 540i Is the Best Classic Getaway Car Because ‘Fifth Gear’ Said So
Back before Top Gear became such a behemoth of a show, the best way to see some clever British folks hooning in cars for the television cameras was to watch Fifth Gear. A fine example of their handy-work can be seen in the video below from back in the good old days of CRT TVs and broadcast signals.
Tiff and VBH decided to figure out which car would make the best getaway car. They rigged up a fake parking garage course and decided to throw four cars into the test: a Peugeot 306 Gti 6, Westfield 1800, Vauxhall Agila, and the BMW 540i.
To be honest, you don’t need to watch this video to figure out how this comparison turns out. The BMW is easily handed the top honor, thanks to its second fastest time and enough horsepower to get away from the baddies after escaping the garage. Still, it is worth a watch just to see this quartet of disparate machinery being flogged, slid, and spun around a fake garage, all for your enjoyment.
So, go forth and watch BMW dominate yet another comparison test, just as the brand has always done through the decades.
