Auto Express Reunites the BMW i8 and M1
Reunited and it feels so good!
That’s definitely what the BMW i8 was feeling when it met up with its spiritual ancestor, the M1. Auto Express recently pitted the two BMW mid-engine supercars against one another on a track and here’s how things went down:
Thirty plus years separate the two supercars, and in that time, technology has progressed so fast that the M1 has become almost ancient or rudimentary in its own technology. While the Giugiaro-designed good looks remain, the performance definitely can’t keep up with that of the i8.
At the same time, I think I’d have the M1 over the i8, though. Personally, the M1 looks better, even though it definitely shows exactly when it was built. It’s just that the i8 isn’t desperately pretty. The technology is fantastic, but it doesn’t cause me to lust for the car the way I do for the M1.
Which one would you all have? The M1 or the i8?
