American Endurance: An Inclusive “Cheap” Racing Series
American Endurance Racing, or AER, is a relatively new multi-class budget racing series with its roots stemming from LeMons and ChumpCar racing, where its founder, John Kolesa, got his start. John created AER with the desire to make an endurance series for serious and knowledgeable racers who wanted a safe, fun atmosphere, without breaking the bank.
AER’s very basic premise is to “race what ya got.” Or, for those of us with more street cred, “run what ya brung.” There are only three, simple rules that need be followed in order for you, and your car, to be eligible for the series:
- Car eligibility: Any production-based racecar built to compete in sanctioned road racing with the SCCA, NASA, BMW CCA, PCA, PBOC or similar governing bodies OR class A LeMons/Chump cars.
- Tires: All cars will use DOT approved street tires with a minimum treadwear of 180.
- Driver eligibility: Drivers must have, or have had, a racing license with the above governing bodies OR have competed in five LeMons/Chump races.
The video below, filmed by our friends at Jalopnik, gives us an inside-look into the AER series and shows us what kind of down-to-earth people we can expect to encounter.
