Does anyone have an F10 with either of the rear seat entertainment options fitted?

I have ordered a 520d but have not yet confirmed the build spec with my dealer. I dont like loose wires in my car, but do like quiet children on longer journeys - so I thought I may get the basic screens at £1500.
Does anyone know if the rear DVD player has the capability to output audio (of a playing dvd) to the car speakers? Does the front iDrive screen have the ability to play a DVD (with the split screen function) and output the video to the rear screens?
Do the rear screens show album artwork of the current MP3 track which is playing?
Do they automatically include TV function?

You get the idea - I would like to know all about them before I commit to buying. Although I haven't asked a dealer yet (and I should of course), I cant help thinking that they just wont know these answers.

So I thought a post on E60 would be just as beneficial!!

Idid not even debate getting them. I think they look terrible in the shrouds and for the money in the US, I can buy and install 15 inch high res overheads, a DVD and two wireless headsets for half the cash. Good questions on the Idrive though, I would be willing to bet the system for the rear seat is completely independent of the rest of the car.

You can download the 5 series GT owners manual which has the same system for more info.

Forget it!

Kids will grow up to be moonbats. They to look out the windows and learn what this, soon to be uglier, world is all about.

Just MHO.

Good points from all, thanks. I have indeed decided not to get them. I placed an order today for a 525 as my dealer has a May build slot that is not sold. So hopefully I will get it mid June.
I'm loving all the photo's on the forum - its nice that people take time and contribute.

I would buy two 3G iPads which can play movies, connect via the internet to online content, and you can get docking/charging units to the Aux port when needed.
The rear-seat units are quite bulky/ugly and really reduce back seat space.

I received my quarterly BMW leaflet/magazine from BMW Belgium and noticed that there is a 400EUR rear entertainment option with two screens available with leads/cables neatly arranged and nice screen holder.
