Hey guys, so I've got a 545i with a broken sunroof shade. I've done a lot of searching and I've seen people talking about the same problem... The shade got pulled too far and now it doesn't move when the sunroof tilts up and it doesn't get pulled forward when the sun roof closes.

So I've taken the sun roof off and had a look at the shade and it looked like maybe there were some broken clips or tabs at the back of the shade, but I couldn't really figure out how it worked or how it was driven. I guess there was too much missing already. So I checked out the RealOEM part diagrams, but there was no separate part. It seems as though the slider pieces on the side of the shade are only sold already attached to the shade. RealOEM.com * BMW E60 545i Lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof



Has anyone out there fixed this problem in their car? Or can anyone give me any insight into how the shade is driven and what is actually broken?

I have same problems and looks like it is #16. Dealer do not stock it as they replace the hole unit but You can order it. I think it needs 4. I just got used to mine as I am not using sunroof that much.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was that or all one piece. Looks like theyre cheap though, so I'll try that before I try the whole sun shade piece.

Well I picked up 4 of #16 and I'm pretty sure that it's not the part I'm looking for. I couldn't figure out a place for them to go in... And they're metal. Whatever broke up there was definitely plastic, as I found little plastic bits left behind.

Does anyone have pictures of a fully working sunroof shade? Part of the problem is I never saw this thing when it was working so I don't know what's broken and missing.

I know this doesn't help but my sun shade will not pull back with tilt either. Also randomly it won't retract when the sun roof opens. Its got to be some plastic piece busted off somewhere I am sure.

Just wonder whether you have managed to solve your issue with the sun shade - and how?

I got similar symptoms:
1. (the sun shade doesn't get pulled forward when the sun roof closes)
2. sun roof won't react at all on a button press - so I'm really puzzled whether it is a sun roof motor or indeed just a piece of plastic
3. The only thing is that when using comfort closing (3 sec. button press on the key fob on lock button) it moves sometimes forward just on ~15 cm and stops ...

if you have any pictures would really appreciate to take a took at them.

Not to switch topics but can you give me a quick rundown of how you removed the sun glass without removing the headliner please. Thanks. i need to reglue the sliding shade fabric.
