Combox Media Blue and Black USB ports 6FL, 6NF, 6NR
Its amazing how quickly you forget things especially when you no longer drive. I've been out of the coding and retrofit scene for a little while now, so please go easy on me.
I recently got back to the car (that has now become my wife's) to complete some retrofits I started over 2 years ago.
I also decided to do a better job with my connections for the Combox.
I had already wired the black Combox USB into the back of my E60's centre console and from what I understood that was simply for 6FL i.e. music from iphone and usb drives.
I hadn't wired the blue USB anywhere but I had ordered the part 61119202749 but that is for connecting the Combox to the new baseplate and on the E60 it is about a foot shorter than needed to get to the centre console even via the shortest route. Luckily I had a USB extension piece at the end of 61319189175 (USB/AUX switchable) and that allowed me to extend that also into the back of the centre console.
So now I have two USB ports in the back of the E60.
BMW never intended the Blue port to be a normal USB, it was always designed to be connected only to the baseplate for the newer snap in.
So my questions are:
1. What's the real difference between these two ports. I noticed that I can get the BMW apps to load even on the Black USB port. Is the Blue used for the Plugin only?
2. What's the difference between 6NF, 6NR. And what is 6NH.
3. I see Media snap-ins now for Samsung. Would those same ones work for an HTC phone? I know the micro USBs are the same.
4. Did we ever see a Combox Telematics retrofit successful in the E60 in Europe?
P.S. : If someone wants to make themselves a TCU to Combox plug and play connector I have the Kufatec connector that you need. I'm never going to use it as I will never go back to the TCU because I sold my CCC. Also if any one needs the old TCU let me know.

My Ride: E92 FBO with extra secret sauce.
@ Bruce_miranda - Both ports have the same capabilities. You can define the behavior of the port and function, within the coding of the CIC itself.
@ Stel_i79 - Nice to see you here! I joined the forum to research the project we talked about a few days ago. Thanks for all the great information!
