PANIC ATTACK! V10 M5, bought, topped up oil, now rattles loud on s

My oil level sensor takes a bit of time to reset itself as well. I think it's a quirk of the '06 builds. I will add a L of oil when prompted to and the sensor will still read low for up to 2-3 days before resetting itself and working normally once again.

Do you zero it out?
select oil level with the stalk and hold it down until you get -- as a level and it should recal in a few min if you are on level ground

Hey guys Im having this exact problem and not sure of the solution. took a long road trip (250 miles) and the car said it was low in oil. So i topped it with 8 quarts as they car said that it only has 1 liter left. Despite topping it with 8 liters of oil, it still says that its low and now its at -1 oil now. Please help!!

If you topped it up with 8L, you better drain everything out and fill again...
0.0L is when you need to add a 1L bottle and recheck
0.1L to 1.0L is within tolerance
1.1L to 1.2L is overfilled (still ok)
1.3L to 1.4L is overfilled and you should drain some of the oil at the oil filter
1.5L is the max the sensor can read and you should not drive the car until oil is drained.

I have an 06' at about 65000 miles as well. Although mine is a 525i About 6000 miles ago, I got a message on the iDrive that the oil is low. I checked the oil level (stupid that it's not a dipstick) and it was at minimum. I was puzzled and checked my parking spot at home and designated parking spot at work and not a single oil drop. That made me think about the oil guage sticking error I've read about from this forum. So, to play it safe, I added 1/2 quart of oil. I checked the oil level again and the marking showed that it was full after just 1/2 quart. I guess I'll agree that 06' builds have a quirky oil guage. I haven't seen the error since.
I know this post is old, but, did you just keepp driving the car as is and the oil level sensor came right on its own?
Mine is stuck on 0.3 and I've put the required amount of oil in...

Anyway, at the time my car was running smoothly. No smoke coming out of the exhaust nor engine so I know I wasn't burning oil. Also, a visual inspection didn't show any leaks so I took a calculated risk. However, if the low fuel message still persisted, I would have taken it in to get it fixed.
BTW, my car showed the low oil message again last November. Added another 1/2 quart and all is good. I changed the oil last February with Mobile 0-40. I'm guessing it happens more on thinner oil since it never did it when I was using 5-30 oil.
