Default Steering wheel "THUNK," not grind, vids inside. HELP

I've read quite a few threads on steering wheel thunking, grinding... noise. So here is my video, with hopefully a sound that someone can identify and help me figure out what it is.

i've seen answers ranging from:

1. PS fluid - Checked and topped off
2. Worn suspension (could be; car has 90K miles) But what
3. Tire rub - Doesnt look like it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I had same problem about 3 months ago on a 08,528i and took it to dealer they charge me $140.00 just to tell me I need it a new steering column lower shaft for a total of $700.00. Came home took off the panel under the steering wheel and lubricated with teflon chain-saver dry self cleaning lubricant the shaft starting from top till the fire wall. By the fire wall the shaft has like a rubber aroud, I stick a flat screw driver then spray the grease to allow the grease to get in and did it around in 4 locations, drove the car a trip to work 50 milles and the annoying noise is gone.
Hope this helps you
Google e60 lower steering shaft and read there is a lots of info.

I had the exact same issue. After hearing horror stories about replacing steering racks etc, I was glad that this was all it turned out to be.

hey guys, i actually have the EXACT same freaking problem currently. But mine seems just a tiny bit more severe (in terms of popping noise.) Should I inspect anything and apply that spray grease to those areas in the picture? I topped off PS fluid, changed stabil bar links, control arms, does not help. What kind of grease is recommended?

(Also, not to hijack this thread, sorry about that, but connected to the steering wheel noise, when I am exiting the driveway or entering or going over a bump at specific angles, The wheels are very stiff and could create a knocking noise sort of as if they are loose or not secure with the car feeling.) What could that be? I was thinking strut but not sure.

Thanks so much!

If I where you I will start by going to any auto parts a buy a litium spray grease and give it a try a bottle is about $3.00 or $5.00, unless you want to pay $140.00 for a diagnostic at the dealer like I did. Hope this helps someone.

BTW, Thats a great looking epoxy floor. I just put one in for my moms birthday, and am totally hooked on them. Going to do my own as well.

Did you do it yourself (I did)? Can I ask how much it cost you?
