Default Problem: my coolant temp sensor is not what it meant to be

I have a 2003 E60 530i (Aus model) with the m54. The sensor was leaking and so I wrongly topped green coolant at one stage. After a few warnings and topping it off later with blue coolant, the sensor stopped goin off. I assume it corroded and blocked further leakage. I bought the sensor with the o ring and went to swap it out.

Problem is there are no side clips as per what I boigbt, and its held in by a silver clip that goes around the side. (No it's not the silver clip that holds the connector).

It does have the same connector end. It's just the body is different (its slimmer) and its held by silver hook clip that slides out of the groove

So I pulled it out and it's ripped in two and the corrosion seems tohabe blocked further leakage. Any ideas what type of sensor mine may have been swapped with (I assume previous owner changed it dodgely)

So heres a pic of what the coolant temp looks like. Has the connecter, then underneath that is the oil temp sensor which is held on by that silver ring clip..

By the looks of it, maybe the oil temp sensor #13621433077 should fit?

You posted a photo of the engine, not the coolant sensor.

Don't think that part would fit yours. To find out the exact original part use RealOEM.com. I've gone through and searched what you might need but it's not 100% certain as I don't know the specific build date of your car. Since you know this you can go through and select the right part exactly.
A quick search I did for your car suggested the 13621433077

Ok, so after research, I found that I need to buy the thermostat which comes with the sensor it uses etc.

So the oil temp sensor I got is not the right part that goes there (I bought it cause I thought that's what the mechanic said was leaking - obviously he was wrong).

So my thermostat as leaking and you can't get that sensor separate. I've found what I need to buy.
