What is the purpose of the X-pipe. Does it just hold the exhaust together or is their flow issues associated with it?

Here is a video of the x-pipe:

The x pipe smooths out the flow of exhaust pressure eliminating drone and depending on where u put it in the exhaust. ...close to (higher f1 style) or back away (american muscle car) from the engine.... you can change the tone of the exhaust...kinda like a trombone slide....

Very cool, thanks for explanation. I've heard lots of people refer to "drone" but not really sure what that means? I like American muscle cars circa 1968-1970 sound. Not 2010 Mustang sound. How do I get my 545i sounding like a 1970 Cuda? It doesn't appear there is a lot of room to move it around. If I can't have Cuda, then I'd opt for F1. Actually, I like the sound of a stock 645i just fine, how do you achieve that on the cheap?

W84me,
you need to shop around your local muffler shops for best price to do what we have been talking about in this thread.....should be $200 or less

Hmmm... I'm not seeing anything like an X pipe there in the pics.
