what did the e39weigh?
#1
Anyone know what an e39 weighed-the I6 and the V8 versions? Were they much heavier or lighter or the same as the current ones.
Since the car is larger dimensions are larger for the e60-but the components have more aluminum etc-I am curious how it compared

Huh looks like they were actually lighter-so much for all the high end weight saving technology and aluminum-given the car is much bigger and about the same weight-I guess that is impresive
I think the sales pitch went something like....
"when compared to comparably equipped models, the new 5 Series actually weighs less than its predecessor"
....meaning that if you took away all of the new stuff they added as standard for '04, you'd end up lighter.
Don't know about the M5;;; has its own separate brochure.

The E39 M5 was heavier than 545i/550i:
545i is about 120-130 Kg lighter
550i is about 100 Kg lighter

Not sure if you noticed, but all the new BMW's are heavy. The new 135i is only 198lbs lighter than the 335i, plus the 335i comes standard with power seats, so that 198lbs is actually a smaller difference.
I really think BMW should go back to their "bread and butter" weight savings.
