I need a rapid quick answer. I'm doing this mod right now and want to know something. The LED in the pocket - Does it point downwards into the pocket or upwards?

Hi.
Why didn't you just connect the two leds into pin 8 & pin 9 of the 16-pin connector on the door module? This way you will get the correct voltage and the leds will also dim together with rest of the interior lights.
I did this and it works great.
In order to connect it to the door module you must use part 61130005197 (0,2-05mm2) or 61130006663 (0,75mm2). Just open the existing 16-pin connector at the bottom of the door module and insert two 61130006663's into pin 8 and 9. You can use ground from the existing light under the door. This ground-wire uses the same ground-central as the leds are suppose to use.
Regards,
Tommy.

I realise that this is an old thread, but I'm interested to know what the output from pins 8 and 9 are. If they are both positive is there a reason to use both pin connections, or is one positive and the other negative ground. The reason I ask is because you also mention the use of ground from the existing light under the door.
Thanks

You need to be careful following this thread. I've done it as well and post a more detailed DIY shortly when I get some time. There are two options to do this DIY and they depend on the year of your car. The older cars had a door module the newer cars don't. Mine did not have a door module and so I took the light outputs from the door switches itself. Ground is in pin 2 and +ve is in pin 3 in three doors, but in pin 4 in Driver door!! The +ve a variable voltage source that changes with the interior lights.
I actually followed this DIY and added 330ohm resistors in series with the LED but I think I will remove them as they are not needed and actually reduce the light output. The signals are already current limited and so will not damage the LEDs. Also the WDS does not show that the OEM connections have any resistors anyway.
I did a completely plug and play solution and so will post the part numbers shortly.

I think this is a cost saving (read cheap) route that BMW took. Make it black if you can't see it.

lol yeah thats true, i priced up the cost of the mirror lights
mirror light ?50 x2
new mirror bezel ?25x2
don`t think i will do this, it will be dead easy as well as they plug into the door modules.

Yes, it's odd that door handle led frames are black, but actually you cannot see them when you sit in car.
I decided also skip the mirror lights due to high cost. Maybe with M5 mirror retrofit later....
