I am looking to upgrade to a car with a bit more power... Could go down the M5 route, but think I want a change of style/shape and for the money, a good used M6 is starting to look attractive.
Are there any major problems with M6's? Looking to get an '08/09 if possible!

No issues with mine....solid as a rock so far. I've had it since Feb. It's a late '07 model and had 34k miles on it when I got it.
Only cosmetic issues that I have had were the illuminated M6 door sills. When I got the car I noticed there were some dark spots on both of them. Dealer replaced both and after a few weeks the new passenger side has a couple of spots that are dim. Dealer has another on ordered. Not sure if this is a common issue with these, or if I've just had bad luck with them......but for $500 a pop, I'm glad they are covered under warranty. Does the M5 have these? If so, are there issues with them?
I'd say go for it...they are great cars. I forgot about my 550 as soon as I drove off the lot in the M6, and have been smiling ear-to-ear ever since
