While the speeds of today’s cars have increased dramatically, there’s still only a few who are part of the 200 mile-per-hour club. Twenty five years ago, this BMW 5-series had its try at membership, and became a legend in the process. Tuned by BMW performance experts Alpina, this B10 was pitched against legends of the day, such as the Ruf Yellow Bird. And it’s still driven regularly by Icelandic owner, Sveinbjörn Hrafnsson.

“Nothing else was in my mind other than going flat out on the Autobahns,” Hrafnsson told Petrolicious. He’s also convinced the B10 Alpina is not only the best 5-Series ever made, but the best Aplina ever made as well. It once held the record for fastest sedan in the world, when it was launched back in 1989. It also started out life as a Granite Silver car, but was painted yellow nearly two decades ago. Hrafnsson still loves the attention the color attracts, so he’s kept it this way. He also likes to use his car, having added over 34,000 miles since taking ownership. If you guessed that most of those miles were done on the Autobahn and the Nurburgring, you’d be safe to put money on that bet.
