Take a listen to this and tell my what you think may be the problem here. I'm guessing it's the water pump (hoping nothing more) but not sure. Have any of you experienced this?
This noise becomes progressively louder when the engine revs or is under load, a lot of screeching and noticably loud clanking.
The worst part of all this is that it happened while we were at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary
Imagine pulling up to the valet with a just cleaned and detailed 545 and all this racketing coming from under my hood! How f*%&kn embarrasing on a Friday afternoon with hundreds checking in, let alone all the "eye candies." lol I decided to just park it in the garage. Eventually I managed to drive it home with all this noise and no Idrive warnings.
I called BMW to inquire about a water pump and they are charging $280 for a remanufactured BMW pump. This housing also incorporates the thermostat housing so I may have to eventually buy a thermostat as well. I know there are cheaper ones out there but I'd rather stick to OEM for this, if this is the case. The r&r seems rather simple so I may be doing the DIY and post/share it here. Thanks in advance.

Go to the harbor freight on decatur ( by the home depot ) and get one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/mechani...ope-41966.html to verify you diagnosis. Alternative would be a long handled screw-driver. Its possibly the waterpump, if you can verify so, heres a good lead for the parts you need to complete the job for $280 shipped, and this includes the reman'ed oem pump http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E60-545...Pump/ES241579/ , 1 gallon bmw coolant http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E60-545...oling/ES10319/ , mocool radiator additive http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E60-545...ling/ES261426/

I researched esc tuning for the part and they are cheaper but i'd need it shipped. My dealer has one in stock, just gotta pick it up. I didn't know abt the additive, so I'll definitely be getting that. Thanks for your help.

Why not? I'm assuming you probably mean non-OEM remanufactured part. That I understand.
It's only a water pump with nothing more than an impellor, bearings and seals if I'm not mistaken. Their rebuilds are done by BMW which meets their strict tolerances as if it were a new item. From their website ,"exchangeable part is subject to exactly the same quality specifications as a new BMW Part and it even carries the same 24-month warranty." Besides the savings can be substantial.

You are exactly right, remanufactured parts - especially from a good vendor - are at least as good as new. Sometimes they are better since there is no break-in period (it was already done when the part was used before).

OK, the verdict is in.
My water pump is shot. As soon as I removed the belt, coolant started gushing out just behind the pulley. When I spin the pulley it wobbles, a lot.
I'm neck deep in this repair (hoses disconnected and lost over a gallon of coolant) so there's no turning back. I thought I had removed all the bolts securing the water pump but there appears (can't tell) to be one more underneath the pump AND DIRECTLY BEHIND THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY! SH*T
For those with the N62 engines who've done this repair, did you remove your crankshaft pulley to remove the water pump? If so, then what size is the crankshaft bolt to turn and remove the a/c belt? My 24mm socket was way too small.
Thanks in advance.

I have yet to replace the water pump but when it comes to the a/c belt you can look here You will spend hours and not be able to put the belt on with out a tool as the belt does not have a tensioner. Do not use a regular serpentine belt to replace this belt it is made to stretch. It cost me $45 at the dealer and $10 for the same one (not similar but the same one) online.
I made a special tool for this since the dealer wanted $120 and did not stock it. It was a good thing too as I would have bought it. I made the tool for less than $10
I think I used a 1-1/16 socket for the crank and a 60 torx for the tensioner.

when reinstalling, place the lower bolt in the hole of the water pump and then place in position behind the pulley.
