Intake grate removed

When I initially installed my RPI air scoop, I saw this inlet grate:
Probably safe to assume it prevents large-ish objects from finding their way into the air box. Ended up cutting it out then deburring the edges around the inlet. My camera pooped out before I could take a photo of the finished product, but here are a couple pieces of the grate that was yanked out:
Now I get to clean my air box of large foreign material more often- yay!

So why would you do this "mod" again? Its proven to add like 10HP at the wheels or smth?

I guess the grate could potentially produce turbulence which could lessen HP...but I don't really think it's noticeable AT ALL. It is interesting what you find in air intakes though...I've found Styrofoam, cigarette butts, and an assortment of various leaves.

IIRC, RPIpower/eloy commented on this in another thread and stated no difference with or without that grate...

Then Eloy probably also feels the same about the Dinan Throttle Body which effectively does the same thing:
