This morning I went out to the garage to drive to work after not touching my 550 for a month (4 weeks)!

Started right up with out any hesitation. No sputtering. No battery drain.

I wanted to say this since there are always people asking about the dependability of BMW and I wanted this to be a positive response that my 550 just worked!

Just curious - while the car sat, was the alarm on or did you leave the doors unlocked (keeping the alarm off)

I can echo the OP's statement having had similar positive experiences after not starting my vehicle over extended periods of time.
I purchased my in December 07 and it currently has just over 15,000 miles on the odometer.
FYI, my vehicle is garage parked, locked and alarmed.

Although I don't think I've gone a full 4 weeks, I have gone between 2 and 3 and never had any issue. This behavior is, in my opinon, expected.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the "unfavorable driving profile" excuse is just that...an excuse. If the car sleeps properly, there's no reason it can't sit for weeks and still start right up. The people who are being told to get a battery tender are people with a car that has a sleep problem and a dealer that isn't capable of figuring out the problem...

Good question! The car was unlocked and the alarm was not armed. However, I've left it for two weeks locked and didn't have any problems either.

On my departed 530i (pre-LCI), I left it with alarm on for 6 weeks and no problem with startup. Maybe I was lucky...
550i is a different beast...

I just started up my 545i today after it sat for almost a month. I do have a pesky leaking vacuum pump. Hence why I didn't drive it.
