I was looking to pull the plug near the rear tail light but I can't get the left rear panel off in the trunk. I removed the only two screws I see but the panel still won't come off. Any ideas? 2010 535i.

Why do u want to pull the plug? where r u located? If ur in NY, I can help,

here's what u do. U already removed the two screws. Now, lift up the flap that covers the spare tire. Then wiggle the panel and it should come off.

Hmmm, I thought the default for the valve on the e60 was closed and that the vacuum line served to open the valve. Not to mention the line is underneath the car on the exhaust, not behind the panel. Which begs the question..What is he doing with the golf tee?

the OP wants to keep that valve open the whole time...by doing this "golf tee" mod

some also think that if the valve is open the whole time there will be less back pressure build up thru the pipes...

I think the golf tee mod will do just the opposite on the E60, it will leave the valve closed all the time. On the 550 it is closed with the vacuum line disconnected. Perhaps it is different on the I6's?

Either way, leaving this valve open all the time will decrease low end HP. My understanding is that the valve serves two purposes. One is to quiet the exhaust at low RPM's, the other is to provide restriction to give more low end power. The valve opens at high RPM via the vacuum line to provide less restriction/higher flow rate and more high end HP.

Then why does he want to remove his rear panel in his trunk? The line runs in the trunk? I didn't know that....
