Hi All

I own an E60 BMW 525d on 04 Plate, its currently done 115k and got full BMWSH and always been looked after well, now when i turn left or right at low speeds or whilst stationary i get a clicking/grunting sound and also feel it in the steering wheel.

Any ideas on what could it be?? Has anyone else felt/experienced this?

Best Regards

YES! and apparently quite a few others on here too. There was a post not too long ago about this. Unfortunately mine is not reproducible enough or barely loud enough but it is one of those things that I can feel and hear but it would be hard to show someone. I checked with my dealers and there is no SIB out for this issue but according to here it is something with the steering column on these cars-not sure what the problem is though.

Does it have Active Steering?

If so, there is a BMW SIB code:

Steering and Wheel Alignment 32 07 05 September-05 E60/E63 Active Front Steering, Noise Fault Code 613E
Steering and Wheel Alignment 32 13 05 October-05 E60/E63 Active Front Steering, Fault Code 6141
Steering and Wheel Alignment 32 14 05 October-05 E60/E63 Active Front Steering Sensitivity

If not, then I'm not sure.

And if you want to see the actual SIB's, take a look here:

Hi, First of all thanks for the replys, no my car does not have active steering. The noise on my car is reproducable and feelable too. all you have to do is turn from lock to lock at low speeds, its just hard to explain it feels like a metal to metal crunch.
