HELP! Rear window rubber trim replacement!

Hey All...
So my rear window rubber trim is deteriorating and it needs to be replaced..
BMW want's like $400 - says the rear window needs to be removed to install...
Local glass place wants $130, but I gotta buy the part on my own (they also said glass needs to come out)...
BMW "specialty" mechanic quoted $199 BUT will be more if glass has to come out AND they said it could break since it's
been in so long ('04) which of course means even more $$ and additional $$ for my tint!
Can this be done as a DYI??? The part from BMW is like $70.
Any experience with this..anyone

it was DIY on the E39 and E38, but not sure on the E60. looks similar so I can't see why it wouldn't be the same. glass removal not necessary but it does make replacement of the trim more difficult. if it's like the E39, just spray a generous amount of silicone lubricant on the new seal and guide it into place with a plastic or wood tool, no metal.

I would go with the $130 and make sure to get a guarantee in case of breakage. The problem with living here in Cali is that the rubber deteriorates in the sun fairly quickly (which is one of the reasons I have a roof spoiler - it sits on top of the upper edge of the rubber protecting it from the sun). That is why one of my first posts was a question on how to preserve the rubber - maybe Gene can find it.

I watched the BMW tech replace this. He did not remove the glass, the rubber was fed around the glass and sealant applied. I missed him removing the old gasket, it couldn't be harder than installing.

but then there's the tint - doubt that would be covered...

yeah, I'm actually jumping on getting this fixed now BECAUSE I want to get the roof spoiler!
