My Ride: 2005 545/SMG Sport Package HUD Logic 7 Bluetooth NAV Cold Weather Package

My 05 545 has a hard brake pedal. Its like stepping on a brick. It moves a certain distance then no more movement and the car has not stopped completely. According to my I-Drive I had 3500 miles left on my front pads so I had both front and rear replaced. No improvement.

Any sugestions?

I had the same problem. The brake vacuum pump is probably broken. Take it to the dealer.

I would agree with Smelly Feet, or you may have glazed your pads, have you been braking hard from high speed regularly ?

Would you happen to have a part number?

I recently had this same problem, and after I visited a few shops I was informed my brake booster went out. Rudy was generous enough to create a TIS file on how to replace the brake booster, as well as a few other components (brake fluid reservoir, master cylinder). Here is the link to that document:

https://5series.net/forums/index.php?autoco...i&img=17568

Also, here is a link to a website where you can purchase the brake booster for a 545i:

http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/YN/E17...eek+Google+Base

The mechanic said the OEM booster is basically a pump to assist in heavy breaking, and that the OEM booster just wasn't strong enough. He used a TRW booster, which he said was well made and strong enough to handle the toughest braking situations.

UPDATE: I had my local BMW mechanic replace the brake booster and bleed the brakes. Everything is running fine now.

Thanks for the update. This is certainly some thing I'll keep an eye on. Glad everything worked out.
