I notice it more when I turn the car to the left, but also at times to the right as well. Anyone else have this issue? Almost sounds like screwing on a plastic cap onto a plastic bottle the sound it makes when you try to tighten it too much. Not sure if I am giving the best description, but that is the best I can come up with.

yes, same issue. If you push on the door sills (the plastic plates that say BMW on them) does it make the same noise? that is what mine was doing, and they basically put some tape or something behind them to fix it. They fixed it under warranty and it doesn't squeak any more.

Where's it coming from? The steering wheel or elsewhere? Does a wooden boat describe the sound better?

The noise is certainly coming from the front and it seems to be the left side, but I cannot isolate any more than that. A wooden boat may describe it better actually. What is it? Thanks.
PS... It was not the door sills as 1esquire suspected.
