I promised to get back to some of you on this.
Since the very first European meet couple of years ago, Hobi had informed me that the paddle shift kit he was selling for auto tranny E60's was NOT compatible with steering wheel heating or it was installable if you were prepared to lose this option. There isn't a day in winter which I don't turn on the heated steering wheel, so I put it behind me as not doable.
However after some discussion last month with nicke60gre we came up with a plan using Fred's paddle kit by heavily modifying his already modified steering wheel coil spring. It was a long shot but Nick has pulled it off. He managed to cannibilise Fred's coil spring and add pins, wire tapes and other stuff to create an extra pair of pins on my original coil and use the same adapters that are available from the steering wheel. No modification has been made the cars electronics, as far as the car is concerned it knows none the better other than the heat switch loop still exists and that the auto recognizes the paddle emulation from Fred's kit.
The work is just sublime from both members : Thanks guys!!
Now I have a auto tranny E60 with sports SMG steering wheel AND heated option enabled. Very unique, the only one on this board and possibly worldwide !

Alex, you have one already buddy ! - something wrong with it ?
Yes, I'd like to have it heatable because at the time of the order I forgot it .
I got from eBay an SMG heated steering thinking to be able to install it, but yesterday men at the dealer tried to install it and the adjuster (61 31 6 947 788) (with my original coil spring and without the Fred's wiring) and the surprice was that it didn't work .
With new coil spring (?90) and that wiring can I have it ?
Was your steering heatable from the factory or not ?
The sellers says I can have the refund, if it cannot be activated .
Thanks, bye!

I'm intrested in doing something like this, is there alot of working getting it working with the auto? How hard are these to track down, and what price would be associated?

My car doesn't have the socket to attach the connector of the heated steering to : I should replace for sure the part number 61 31 9 129 499 and this is certain .
But nobody knows if once swapped it I would need more parts behind the steering (that maybe cars with heated steering from factory have) like wirings etc.
