Hi everyone, I've just replaced my rear brake pads and I have tried to reset the service indicator which was telling me the pads needed to be replaced. I have gone through the steps to reset it...as I have done before....but when I tried to reset the rear brake pad indicator, it jumped to - (minus) 25000km, now the iDrive is going bonkers when I start the car screaming at me that my service for rear brake pads is overdue.......it's driving me mad. I have tried a few times to reset the indicator...following the tried and tested method...which worked for me other times no problem...but it wont reset itself from the -25000km. On a similar note, the iDrive is telling me that I need to replace the right side reversing light...but it's working, what the hell is going on with my car ?

No Ponnu, the sensor/wear indicator did not need to be replaced as the pads had not worn down completly to the sensor.

-Are you sure the sensor has not been touched, i.e. there is no "metal" showing on the tip of the sensor
-When attempting to reset, make sure you begin with the display reading today's date then begin with the process.

Assuming the pad wear sensor has not worn at all, try the pad wear sensor reset procedure again. BMW techs tell me that when they do the reset, even they sometimes require more than one attempt.

That video is a really bad example. You shouldn't post a video of getting it wrong. Go and make another video.
BTW, if you use the iDrive controller to get into the reset section you can actually adjust the distance by turning the iDrive knob.
Cheers

Virgil, the video is accurate... it may take too long for it to get to the correct stuff but its accurate. Maybe in your car you can use the idrive to reset service items, but in my '04 545i I cant. I have no idea what model or year the OP is driving but before you go slamming someone for posting something helpful you may want to double check what you are saying. The idrive knob is useless when in my service menu.

I had the same problem. I changed the rears before the light came on. Thinking I could save a couple of bucks. So I didn't change the sensor in the rear. Come to find out I did need to change it after I tried to reset. So more than likely you need to change yours.
