2004 530i manual. 120k.

First full tank of gas. OBC says 25 mpg avg, I have about 240 miles on the current tank w/a tad over a quarter left.

Car seems to be running fine. I don't drive it hard, and am driving about 60 city/40 highway.

Gas tank is about 17-18 US gallons?

What is everyone else averaging?

2008 535i, 55k miles.

I just purchased this car and have about 340 miles on the current tank, with about 120 on the mls (a little over a quarter tank as well).

I drive a little over 80 miles a day, and I haven't filled up yet. My first time driving it was last Tuesday. So that seems about right with a 18.5 gallon tank.

2008 535i 42k miles, my car reads average of 20.3 mpg. That is with JB4 and other engine mods. Not sure how accurate the onboard computer is, but thats what it reads.

On average I get about 420-430 miles per tank with mixed driving (probably 65% hwy - 35%city)

My '07 530xi (expect reduced fuel economy from xi) has averaged 24.6mpg over 4+ years and 55K miles. This mileage is based on gasoline purchased and miles driven, recorded on my pda. It typically is within a few tenths of a mpg when compared to my OBC and trip computer.
I drive a mix of 50% in suburbs / town, 40% highway, 10% stop and go. I consider myself a conservative but sometimes spirited driver. My best highway mpg was nearly 30mpg on an easy drive from NJ to GA. My worse in city was about 19mpg; but I avoid jack-rabbit driving and stop light drag races.

I have recorded as much 500+ miles to empty immediately after a refill and back on the road for easy 50mph driving.

I heard something like the car averages the MPG based on the last 20 miles driven. So if you drive 20 miles stuck in traffic for 30 min., it would show crappy mileage.

The avg mpg is just that - an average since it was last reset. What will change based on driving situations is the miles to empty. So, if the most recent driving is stop and go your iDrive will report fewer miles to empty since the current fuel economy is reduced.
Get back up to easy cruising speeds and the numbers will update based on how the car is being driven.
