I just wanted to share my experience with low oil pressure light in my 2005 545i (106k). It started last night on the way back from work. Lucky for me I was less than a mile away from home when it started. It was pretty random ? engine was running just fine and the light was coming on and off at high rpms and while idling.
Today I took out oil pressure switch and I discovered that it was leaking from inside. Oil was getting inside the plug and wire harness causing a short.
$12 + an hour later I have a new switch. I hope that will fix my problem - test drive tomorrow. Will keep you updated.

That is great. Where is switch located on the engine? Just in case I start having this issue.

That is good
But can you show us or tell where it is located and what is the procedure to replace it?

Under the vacuum pump(just left of center looking at the engine, down about half way.)... I found if you remove or temporarily relocate the coolant expansion tank, you can get your hand in there without removing anything else.
