2005 bmw transmission slam disappointed in BMW
#1
.My family has owned three Bmws and has been loyal to the brand. Everyone has enjoyed their cars and had no problem. I just bought a 2005 545 and I am not happy at all. I have been experiencing transmission issues every since I bought it. At first I thought that it is normal. I took it in to the dealer and they said we will check it and never did. The issue I have is form 1-2nd gear and then shifting down form 2-1 it is really rough and sometimes it slams. The slam is so bad that it moves the car up and back like you are rocking it. I took if to the dealer again and they tested it could not duplicate issue. I ask the dealer to do a drive with me and I showed it to the shop foreman who said it is normal. I couldn?t get it to do it as bad as I have experienced it. The dealer is saying there are no codes and I can do a software update and it will cost me $400. I just paid $30k for this car and now I have to throw $400 in to it and that might not even fix the problem by the way the car is a CPO! I feel like this is a mistake and I will stay away form bmw in the future. I really expected better form BMW. Anyone looking for a BMW beware.

would you mind posting your location and which dealership you have been dealing with?
helps other members suggest possible alternative dealerships and/or indy shops.
also: have you tried the "25 second transmission reset", jury still out if it really does what it's supposed to do, but it's worth a shot: https://5series.net/forums/topic/400...moother-shift/

Yeah when I bought my CPO BMW the salesman told me it covers 95% of the new car warranty. At the time I still had 1 year remaining on the new car warranty and some minor issues were fixed with no problems. Once that ran out, every problem I've had they would try to deny under the CPO warranty and I had to bitch and complain to get some covered. It's a pain for sure. Wonder how the other makes treat their CPO warranties. My friend who has a CPO Volvo says they cover everything just like under the new car warranty.

you paid 30k for an 05 545i with 65k miles? ouch
is the trans slam worse under light throttle or heavy throttle?
in D mode the trans is suppose to start off in second gear. when in DS mode the car takes off in first gear.

Sorry I can't help with the tranny issue....other than the reset. My car has the same mileage as yours and no issues. However, you got severely robbed paying 30K for an 05.

perform a fluid change...you will feel the difference. May be due to fresh fluid or possible the fluid level was low before but the slam has reduced tremendously. Your car is still CPO so I don't know if they will do it for you though.
