1,5 weeks ago I notices that the 3M Di-NOC carbon fiber vinyl wasn't holding anymore on some of my interior parts. I guess it is the warmth that had done it.
Actually it was only the inner door handles that were in bad condition. The deep cup of the handles was too much for the vinyl and it had popped up from the cup. The switch panels were ok, but I decided to rip the vinyl from them also and paint them and the handles.
Removing the door panels was quickly done, because it wasn't the first time. It was the same with removing the parts. I had painted one handle earlier to see how it turns out, and therefore I had a process already in my mind and I started working.
This is what I did:
- ripping of the vinyl
- harsh sanding with 80 grit sandpaper to get completely rid of the original light gray paint
- sanding with 180 grit sandpaper
- wetsanding with 240 grit wetsandpaper
- wetsanding with 320 grit wetsandpaper
- cleaning
- plastic primer paint, 4-5 layers (painted a thin layer, let the parts dry 3-5 mins, then next layer etc.)
- gunmetal automotive paint, 4-5 layers (painted a thin layer, let the parts dry 3-5 mins, then next layer etc.)
- clear laqcuer, 4-5 layers (painted a thin layer, let the parts dry 3-5 mins, then next layer etc.)
They came out pretty nice. I let them dry 20h and then went and installed everything back. Here are few pics.
The one that I did earlier:

The rest of the parts primered:

The seats are regular sport seats which I bought used and got them reupholstered with door cards, center console and rear seat.
There's a thread on this section about my interior project. It's called "I have a hunch modding's not over yet...". I'm using my cellphone so difficult to put a link here, sorry.
