My Ride: (Expecting Oct. 2004) 2005 530i Sport package, premium sound package,premium package, xenon's, HUD, sat radio, cold weather package, navagation
I Have had my 5301 for 6 months and 14,000 miles and still can not master the turn signals, when they are on and I shut them off I go to far and turn them on the other way, I am pretty coordinated But I just can not get this under control.

Here's the trick--say you have your left blinker on. To turn it off, move the stalk just to the first resistance point--as if you wanted to activate the left triple turn signal. It will turn off the blinkers.

My Ride: orient blue 520i, truffle brown dakota, AFS, xenons, PDC.
you can go to idrive and switch off this 3-click function. the indicator will then operate just like a normal car's.

[/quote]hum. if a iDrive contain the code that controls the blinker, maybe we should send a reqeust to BMW say, let's let the user to have "variable" function for the blinker.
User can decide how many clicks they want. Since it is control by iDrive, it should be easy to modify via firmware.

[/quote]My spouse has no problem using them as designed. Actually when I drive another car now I miss the de-activate push again feature. I do wish it would blink 5 times or was customizable. 3 blinks may be cut it on the autobahn but you need more for any US urban freeway.
The other bitch I have is the location of the green arrows on the dash. I cannot see them when turning the steering wheel, which is normally what happens after I signal DUH.

I am facing the same problem .. The problem is whenever you want to cancel the turn signal it will become on on the other side ???
Thus, I am holding it with my hand .. and when I want to cancel it .. I release my hand and it goes off.

As explained above, the trick to canceling it on the E60 is to move the lever in the SAME direction as the indicator is blinking -- in other words, the opposite of what everyone is used to.
Once you get used to this new way, it actually makes more sense and works fine.

I really do not have a problem with it - took me less than a week to get used to it & work out that unless you want to signal L then R, then L etc - cancel the blink by moving it the same way.
Also - if you put then on constant they cancel like normal once you have completed a turn.
I agree though - a way of varying the number of blinks would be useful, so we can adapt to differing traffic conditions - depending on speed, heavy traffic etc.
They have the tech & knowhow already - viz. the winscreen wiper sensitivity adjustment - this could be adapted to the indicator stalk.
