BMW, anything that has BMW approval, or anything that meets/exceeds BMW LL-01.

Michael.

castrol syntec made in germany only. the american made stuff is not the same and inferior. they look exactly the same unless you look for "made in ..." on the back.

can find 0w30 in autozone.

Go to Bob Is the Oil Guy, you'll get way more information than you want, leaving you really confused. I will run Red Line 5W40. You can argue that I can get adequate protection for less money, but you can't convince me that the RL 5W40 won't provide all the protection I'll need no matter how hard I drive. My car is way out of warranty so engine protection is more important to me than whether or not it's on BMW's list.

Chinese oil, that's funny! Seriously, the German Castrol is a completely different product than regular Castrol. It's good oil, I just don't feel comfortable running such a light grade. That and it's hard to find nowadays.

+1

You can get European formula in Napa. Mobil 1 0w30 is an alternative should you not find the BMW oil. Generally the dealer has it and it is cheaper than the other synthetics you'll get at the auto parts store anyway.
