It's been a while since a did a bit of moding so I couldn't pass on a bargain off ebay for a full set of illuminated door sils - I always liked this accessory but found the dealer price (450euros) too steep - finding it at a 1/3 of the price was sweet
The sils themselves are brushed aluminium with an illuminated LED section which light up by the relevant signal. All parts are included in a box - no coding is necessary.
I'm attaching all relevant pdf's I gathered in case someone's interested in installing this in the future - the install itself is not terribly difficult but I will challenge anyone who can do this in 2.5 hours as stated in the BMW install instructions ! it took me the better part of a day. There's a lot of interior trim removal, some drilling and you'll need some basic wiring knowledge.
You'll need to access BMW WDS for the electrical wiring diagrams (there's a couple of online sites - just google it
)
Product info:

Install instructions are in German but this can be easily translated online:
EBA_Einstiegsleisten.pdf
just use an online pdf translator like zoho viewer for translation to english...
Various instructions for relevant trim removal:
Illuminated door sils BMW E60 sedan.pdf
Location of relevant electrical plugs:
EO_E60_61_0 11004.pdf
EO_E60_61_0 x13252.pdf
All electrical connections are done behind the glovebox:

final product:
front

rear:

I personally think if the design is sexier, it might be worth it. But just BMW lettering and the two curves around it, I dunno, not enticing enough.
But hey, as long as you like it!

Very good, adds nice touch to the car.
Should treat yourself to a big dinner to bring up all the calories you lost!
Any possible way to take a shortcut and tap some wires close by without all the routing?

Good job! Looks great man. You've got some skillz to do all that wiring.
Thanks for putting up the instructions.
Nice mod on the rear-right passenger seat too! Looks comfortable.

hehe...yeah might seem too much work for what it is, but that doesn't bother me as I like working on the car - and I agree, unless you find a bargain, they're not worth the dealer $.
Find them cheap on ebay; definately worth the result - it's a classy touch imo.
