Open your hood and look in front of the coolant reservoir, left front as you are facing the engine compartment. Look for the component pictured with four metal hydraulic lines coming into the top. In the US at least, there is a sticker on the front saying "Active Steering"

yea i checked and have that component however the sticker does not say active steering on it...... it just reads ECU and a series of numbers. Is that component exclusively for active steering, meaning if you have it, you have active steering ?

It must be a US thing for it to be included in the sport pack because I don`t have it, it`s not listed in the options list and a recent diagnosis by myself didn`t show the active steering ECU.
Having said that my steering is a lot lighter than my old 2003 E60 SE.

I can't confirm this, but look at your steering fluid reservoir cover. If it's all black, you have active steering. If it has a star or spoke with green colored cap, you don't. As I said, somebody has to confirm this.
