tramlining e60 19" wheel solved

Default tramlining e60 19" wheel solved

hi, let me introduce myself, my name Arif from Indonesia. I found this forum very helpful to my e60, so I want to share also. i hope this can be useful information.

I was confused of e60 tramlining alot after change to 19" style 166 wheel. 255/40/19 front and 285/35/19 rear conti sportcontact2. its very unstable especially on rear. tramlining alot when lane changed, or driving in a highway bad road. I read alot about tramlining, how pressure tyre, suspession component, tyre patch, tyre condition, too wide tyre patch, scrub radius, wheel alignment and confused.

So I made decision to correct suspension component. I change all of rear suspension arm at first. did wheel alignment and try various tyre pressure. still can't correct my e60 tram lining. Then I change front axle control bushes, replace lower arm bushes and replace link stabilizer and my e60 more behave in front but still tramlining alot at rear. yesterday I decided to replace 4 wishbone bushes, integral link, integral link bushes. Finally my e60 really good. no more tramlining. no more uncontrolled rear steering. I'm extremely happy to have e60 now.

thinking about why 19" more prone to tramlining than style 122 17" , because 19" low profile tyre have less sidewall flex. and contisport contact and some UHP tyre create good road feedback, and this feedback try to bend wishbone, with bad wishbone bushes, create more toe in toe out uncontrolled. even when I did wheel alignment, seems ok, no significant bad suspension system symptoms. But because less flex sidewall, transfer a lot road imperfection to bushes.
