Tire size thoughts for 20" wheels??
 

Hey all. Looking to possibly buy these wheels and tires as a package but unsure about the tire size they are providing. Does anyone else have this same tire size on their wheels? Do they rub? Anything you would have done different? Tire size or downgrade rim size to 19"? I have a 2004 525i w stock suspension. Appreciate the input!

actually according to rolling diameter, the tire sizes should be 245/30/20 and 275/25 or 285/25/20 . if you go with 20s, we usually recommend a thicker sidewall for more rubber but because of the increase in overall diameter, rubbing may be an issue. rubbing can be avoided by rolling the fenders though with the upsize in overall diameter.

What Weezy said is, as usual, spot on. The "recommended" tire size for our cars with 20's is 295/25/20, but that means a sidewall too thin for my tastes. I used to run 285/30/20, but those rubbed, even with my fenders rolled. For the last 2 sets I have used 275/30/20, the rub is GONE, the grips is excellent. There is a slight stretch, but the brand you choose will determine how much of one, I use Falken FK452 and there is a slight stretch on my wheels (20X10.5).

On a 07 530i sport pack I run 245-30 or 35-20 & 275-30-20. Slight rub up front occasionally. Never out back.

Pj - Are your fenders rolled? So if I am understanding correctly the difference between the 285 and the 275 is that in the case of the 275, 30% of its width sidewall where on the 285 the same 30% is a slightly thicker sidewall thus being left open to more of a rub?

Atl - Did you not have rubbing either on your backs? Ive never heard of a 245 rubbing on the fronts...Do you have sports suspension ei aftermarket?

Yes, my fenders are rolled as much as they can be without pulling them (flaring). I have wheels with M6 offsets so they are fairly close to the fenders, with 285 I rubbed all the time. In my case 275 is what I can run with no problems. Keep in mind my car is lowered on coilovers. Sometimes it depends on the car and the wheels, I have seen members run 295/30 without rubbing and others run 255/30 (M5 fronts) on the front and not rub, but for the majority of us 255 fronts will rub horribly.
I figure it;s easier to start at 275 and be sure not to rub, and then if you want a different look try the 285s on the next set. BTW, you will be going through some rear tires, our spec for rear camber is -2.0 degrees, which kills the inner edge of the tire. I had the alignment shop dial out as much as possible, they got it down to -0.8 degrees. My rear tires have lasted me MUCH longer this time.
