Default Help with 19" BMW e60 Alloys.

Hello,

I am wondering if someone can help me. I own a BMW LCI 520d SE 2007 Plate.

I have recently brought a spare replica BMW Style 167 alloy, I have four OEM's and have brought the 5th to use as a spare wheel as the sealent stuff got used some time back an it was crap. I couldnt use a standard space saver or any other wheel which was smaller then 19" otherwise would have caused the car a limp ( one size small then others).

So I did some research, didnt no know allot about wheels but ended up buying a replica BMW Style 167 alloy with the following spec 19x9.5j offset 20 with a 275/35/R19 tyre. This looks exactly like my existing one. This wil sit in the boot an will only need it in the event of having a flat tyre. I am planning a road trip next year and some regions am thinking of visiting (out of europe) may not readily have 19" size tyres to replace with so this will act as a spare. But the issue I have is that If I get a flat in the front I wont be able to use this because its rubbing.

This alloy fits perfectly in the rear however when I put it at the front it starts to rub against the suspenssion. I have attached the photos.

I have been advised to get spacers but the bit am struggling with is how big should they be to clear the gap? 3mm, 5mm or 10mm? Also do I get a flat one that Halford offer? or hub centric?

I will only ever use this alloy If I have flat tyre , am looking to drive on road but some of the route takes you through a desert and nearest tyre shop may be 300/400miles away. I will also be carrying one extra tyre no alloy just incase even the tyre shop doesnt have the tyre that will fit. So the aim is that If I do get a flat in remote area am able to drive good 200/300 males before replacing it with the OEM one with a new tyre.

I would be grateful if someone can really help me in pointing me in which spacer I should get and if thats the only problem I would incur? as far as I can see if the I clear the suspension all else will be okay.

The original allows are 19x9j at the rear and 19x8.5j at the front.

First, you need a new tire on that wheel.
Second, 275/35/19 are rear wheel size for staggered setups, not ideal for front wheels. It may rub the fenders or inner fenders when turning. You can try a 10mm spacer (yes, it must be hubcentric), but I don't think that wide a wheel will work in the front anyway - sorry.
If it were me, I'd sell that wheel and get an 8.5 in front wheel as a spare. This would use the normal 245/35/19 tire and it would fit in the rear as well in a pinch. Better to have one that looks a little skinny in the rear than one that will rub the bodywork in the front.

Thanks for replying Pjinca,

That alloy came with that tyre so hence why it is bold. I was looking to replace it it had fitted but dont think I will now the alloy doesnt fit.

I have spent £200ish on it so unsure if it will sell for what I paid for it but thanks for the advise, 10mm space would bring it out too much so will have to go with smaller wheel.

Since it hasn't really been used you can probably sell it for close to what you paid. I agree, going with a 8.5 in wide wheel as opposed to a 9.5 or 10 in wheel would be better in your case. It would at least fit where ever you want to place it. Just remember, depending on the offset you may need a spacer to fit it to the rear as well. Whichever wheel you choose check fitment at all 4 corners before you head for your trip. This will give you the opportunity to make sure it fits if it's needed. Good luck
