e60 oversized tires

When the 2010 528i was launched it had 225 50R 17 sized tires.

Can the body handle 235 50R 17 tires without wheel well modifications?

Will putting on wider tires throw new error codes?

You shouldn't have an issue since you don't have an AWD car. People go to 20" rims on our cars, so running 17's won't be a problem.

That is a taller tire, if you want to go wider, go with a 40/45, a 50 series is taller. Honestly, dump the 17's and run 255/40r18. They will fill the well nicely without going to low. If you want to go wider a 245/40r17 would be about your exact size but wider.

I have a 2010 528i e60.

I would like to go with a wider 245 tire you suggested. I worry that it will hit the inside of the quarter panel.

Do we know that a ton of guys have put 245's on their stock 17 inch wheels?

We don't know that, but you can ask.

The manual for my 2005 545 indicates that 245/45-17 tires are acceptable.

Yes, I've heard the pre-LCI cars had 245/45-17" as an acceptable uprated size. I'm looking to make the same move on my 2010 e61, but such specs are no longer printed on the driver's door panel.
The rotating radius is extremely close between the two sizes, the only issue is where the 7.5" rim is fine with the 245 width tire (so a stretch/width issue).

any xDrive/e61 people?

Note that it's not the rolling circumference comparison between two separate sets of tires that matters, it's the rolling circumference among the four tires of the same set that matters.

Of course, but if you want to avoid speedo/electronics issues, your replacements better be damn near the stock rolling diameter.
