As for wheels, there are actually a great deal of options out there, but you should at least get an idea of which direction you want to take.

My summer BBS CK's will probably be for sale soon - they are a square setup, 19x8.5" all around with 245/35/19 Hankooks. Offset is ET35 all around, no rubbing at all. You may even get away with a 5-7mm spacer in the back - although I didn't try that, because it looks great to me as they are and I don't want to add any unnecessary weight/complications. Tires are about 5-5.5 months old, still have plenty of tread left. A little curb rash on one of the wheels, but barely noticeable. You can see pics here: http://forums.5serie...her-photoshoot/

Other than that, just read through this thread and see what you want to do. Consider road conditions in your area, whether you want these wheels to be all season or just summer. I went with BBS because this side of forged wheels, they are the best, bar none, as far as reliability is concerned. Stock BMW wheels are wimpy - get bent all the time in NYC... anyway, your question is too vague to give an unbiased opinion, so I gave you my personal view of it. If you want to know more, you can always narrow down your questions and/or PM me - I'm always happy to help out

Good Luck!

PS almost forgot: if you're gonna get 19's, most likely you're gonna want to drop the car eventually. 18's - you can leave the suspension alone, it will look okay. It won't have that "stanced" look, but it will look fine enough for 18's.
Im sorry everybody,I just bought the car about 2 weeks ago and it is an 07 bmw 530xi not 08, my bad.
@ V_therussian, please let me know how much you want for them.

Not sure if I ever posted this in here before or not but I was running the following:

20x9 +35 F
20x9 +35 w/ 15mm spacer R
245/35/20 tires
No Rubbing
No Fender Rolling

Tire in that image is a 235/35/20, but I moved it up to a 245/35/20 with zero issues and it just made the side wall a little taller and looks more pleasing to the eye.

Here are the 245/35/20 tires so you can see the side wall difference, but this is with M5 fenders and 15mm spacers up front and 20mm spacers in the rear with rolled fenders in the rear:

OK, I looked through this whole thread for pics of "higher sidewall" 19" wheel/tire combos, meaning for those of us who don't want to lower their cars, a combo of 19" wheels with a 245/40/19 square setup or 245/40/19 front with 265/35/19 rear. I have wagon but if I can find a picture of an Xi with this combo it would be great before I pull the trigger. I'm hoping that the larger diameter will both fill the wheel well better, while keeping the ride height necessary to negotiate poor quality NorCal roads.

any pics of this setup would be great. thank you.

1 You are not going to find anyone with such a photo as most people who want 19's are not going for any sort of practical application.

2 How many times do you need to hear this fact: 245/40x19 is identical in outer diameter (26.7") as 245/45x18 (the section width of the 19" is about .2" wider, or, essentially nothing) That 19 will be ok on an 8" but is ideal on an 8.5" - 9" wide wheel. Your ET for an 8.5" wide needs to be right at 35-29 max on the front, the rear has some more room or could use a spacer to bring it out if the wheels are all the same and ET 40 like the style 128 from the x3, not to choose it, just for example on ET+spacer

3 THIS is exactly the "fill" of the wheel/fender gap you can expect:
(you could elect to use a small spacer [~10mm] on the rear to help with the visual effect of a tighter look without actually causing problems)

Plenty tight but also very practical for real driving regardless of road surface and speed while loaded down:
